The Scholastic Book Fair will begin after Thanksgiving break. Sponsored by NPTO, the book fair will kick off Friday, Dec. 5, which is Family Movie Night! Doors open at 5 p.m. with "Ice Age" playing at 5:30 p.m. The book fair also will be open mornings before school Dec. 6-11. It wraps up after the Winter Concert, scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Go, Lions!

NCS kindergartners have been practicing yoga with Ms. Plummer. Yoga has been shown to help with concentration. All of the sessions end with quiet meditation and mindfulness. Students have shown great improvement with flexibility and. balance after only one month. Go, Lions!

NCS music teacher Ms. Plummer took eighth-graders Ellie Bartrug, Soley Beausang, and Noelle Vinal to Cony High School to audition for 7/8 Honors Band. All three qualified! The Honors Band Concert will be in April. Go, Lions!

Several NCS students attended "An Evening With Dog Man Creator Dav Pilkey" at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland on Nov. 14. A few even had books signed by Pilkey or purchased signed copies of the latest Dog Man book. One copy even has been donated to the NCS Library! Maine author and fiber artist Hillary Dow visited the NCS Library on Oct. 24. She discussed her process of making books: writing the words and felting characters and objects out of wool and photographing them. She took questions and taught 10 lucky middle-schoolers how to felt a bookmark during "Lunch in the Library." Go, Lions!

NCS Pumpkin Day was a hit Friday with students in grades K-4 taking part in pumpkin-related activities ranging from relay races in the gym to an Ooey Gooey treasure hunt in Ms. K-B's room. They estimated the number of candy corn, used mini catapults, danced to on-screen prompts and made pumpkin necklaces showcasing the life cycle of a pumpkin plant. Go, Lions!

Read-a-thon winners from each class at NCS received two posters, a certificate of accomplishment and a gift certificate for two free books from the Scholastic Book Fair last Friday from NPTO. Students read more than 16,000 combined minutes with 49 children participating. The book fair is in December. Go, Lions!

Last week's Pumpkin Run hosted by the LA Cross Country Team drew 21 participants from NCS. Everyone completed the race and showed grit, determination and sportmanship. Seven NCS boys place in the top 10. Go, Lions!
